PRB is working with the Oxford Health Alliance (www.oxha.org) to assess the economic consequences of chronic diseases in developing countries, which are widespread and growing. Chronic diseases kill more people in developing countries than infectious diseases do, and account for almost half of ill-health in these countries. Research is exploring the unknown and potential chronic disease burden that preventive measures could address. A recent report on the economics of chronic diseases, co-authored by Rachel Nugent, is available at www.oxha.org/initiatives/economics/chronic-disease-an-economic-perspective.
