Data Visualization and Dissemination

A rapid rise in the amount of available data makes it increasingly difficult for policymakers and planners to find what they need to make informed decisions. PRB bridges the data-policy gap by presenting data on population, health, gender, and the environment in clear and compelling formats.

Data without context are just numbers.

Data with context are powerful tools that can inform policymaking and influence change.

If research is to be understood by policymakers, the media, and other non-technical audiences it must be conveyed clearly. PRB staff collect and analyze data and display it in ways that inform public understanding on topics such as population change, trends in aging, health-related behaviors, and patterns and shifts in family planning use.

We share these evidence-based insights through non-technical reports, presentations, interactive maps, data visualizations, and other formats that are accessible, accurate, and engaging. Examples include:

  • The World Population Data Sheet, one of the most trusted sources for vital demographic data and insights used by government leaders, policymakers, researchers, academics, and decisionmakers around the world.
  • A series of interactive charts and maps showing that even though Americans are living longer, declines in adult death rates aren’t evenly distributed across states.
  • Interactive charts illustrating the dynamics of contraceptive use so health policy and program decisionmakers can better deliver high-quality, client-centered services that enable women and couples to make the best family planning choices for themselves.

These products are used by policymakers and other decisionmakers, nongovernmental organizations, civil society actors, educators, and the media to report on issues and inform their actions
