“We hope that the revised PHE toolkit will serve as the top “Go To” resource for people around the world, including those who are already passionately committed to PHE and those who may be learning about PHE for the first time,” said Kristen P. Patterson, program director for Population, Health, and Environment with Population Reference Bureau.

The updates to the PHE toolkit include streamlining and reorganizing the structure and modifying the contents to ensure that recent research, evaluations, and other resources are all available. Rather than serving as a repository of every available PHE publication, the redesigned toolkit showcases the best and most recent resources, along with classic PHE reference materials. As Craig Leisher, the director of Monitoring and Evaluation with The Nature Conservancy’s Africa Region said, “The PHE Toolkit is the encyclopedia of PHE knowledge to date.” The toolkit has new subsections dedicated to the East African Community and the Lake Victoria Basin Commission, which collectively reflect the increasing support for PHE and the growing community of practice in East Africa. Added resources include documents that focus on PHE and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as population dynamics and climate change.

Daniel O. Adero, the Knowledge Management program officer for PHE with the Lake Victoria Basin Commission, said, “The PHE approach is a very integral part in today’s development. However, many people are still struggling to understand this concept. The revamped PHE toolkit should assist them by providing a number of resources about PHE and how to integrate. Organizations working on environmental, conservation, and health issues around the Lake Victoria Basin should not hesitate to visit this resource. Apart from being a one-stop shop for providing resources one may need to integrate PHE, the toolkit is very easy to use.”

The updated toolkit offers the best available knowledge and practices on how to design and implement, communicate, promote, and advocate for PHE programs, including:

• Information about integration benefits, PHE links, and current initiatives.
• Guidance on and experiences with program design, training materials, implementation, data collection, monitoring and evaluation, and scale up and replication of PHE efforts.
• Research, project/program evaluations, and conference documents.
• Guidance and examples of effective policy, advocacy, and communications materials and strategies.

PACE will continue to regularly update the toolkit so that the most recent information about PHE projects, and the most recent research and tools, are easily accessible. The PHE toolkit is available online.
