WASHINGTON, D.C.—Population Reference Bureau (PRB) today announced the appointment of three new members to its Board of Trustees: Dr. Robert Crosnoe, associate dean of liberal arts and Rapoport Centennial Professor of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin); Dr. Patricia Foxen, deputy director of research at UnidosUS (formerly National Council of La Raza); and Dr. Kyler Sherman-Wilkins, an assistant professor of sociology at Missouri State University.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Crosnoe, Dr. Foxen and Dr. Sherman-Wilkins to PRB’s board because of their outstanding academic credentials and research on areas important to our work, including children and youth, health and aging, immigration and social inequality,” said Jeffrey Jordan, PRB’s president and CEO. “They bring to PRB a wealth of diverse interests and experiences that will be of tremendous value as we continue to grow and develop as an organization.”
“The need for reliable research and actionable data is stronger than ever,” said Amanda Glassman, chair of PRB’s board of trustees and executive vice president of the Center for Global Development. “We look forward to working with Dr. Crosnoe, Dr. Foxen and Dr. Sherman-Wilkins to deepen PRB’s work providing evidence for informed decisionmaking.”
An expert on human development, family, and health, Crosnoe also serves as a faculty member in UT Austin’s Department of Psychology (by courtesy) and Population Research Center. His main research focuses on the connections among children’s, adolescents’ and young adults’ health, social development and educational trajectories, and how these contribute to population-level inequalities. He received a Ph.D. in sociology from Stanford University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Foxen’s expertise includes migration and social integration of Latinx communities; psychosocial health and well-being of immigrant children, youth and families; race, ethnicity and discrimination; indigenous migrants; and cultural and medical anthropology. She holds a Ph.D. in anthropology and a master’s degree in medical anthropology from McGill University, and a master’s degree in population and family health from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.
A 2016 PRB Policy Communications Fellow, Sherman-Wilkins’ work focuses on social inequality in health and aging. He describes himself as a social demographer who seeks to understand the ways that social environments and institutions shape health and aging trajectories and social disparities throughout a person’s life. He holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology and demography from Pennsylvania State University.
Crosnoe, Foxen and Sherman-Wilkins began their PRB Board terms in October. They succeed Chris Bachrach, Susan McGregor and Carolyn West, who reached their mandatory term limits on the Board in April 2020.
