Djaratou Kouyate has a rich background in public health and social support services. Originally from Abidjan, she moved to the United States to further her education, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science from Howard University. She gained valuable experience working for a nonprofit organization for five years, where she supported formerly incarcerated individuals, people with histories of substance abuse, and people with mental illnesses.
Kouyate continued her education by obtaining a master’s degree in public health from the Boston University School of Public Health, specializing in global health and maternal and child health. During her graduate studies, she served as a consultant for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, evaluating a youth development program. She also worked as a research assistant at the Refugee Women’s Health Clinic at the Boston Medical Center, assessing the impact of the centering pregnancy model, a support program for pregnant refugee women.
Upon completing her master’s degree, Kouyate joined the Massachusetts Department of Public Health as a health strategist, focusing on improving the health outcomes of poor and low-income communities. Her work in both nonprofit and public health sectors highlights her commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and addressing health disparities.
