John Penn joined PRB in 2022 as Senior Director, Strategic Communications for International Programs. He has more than 25 years’ experience designing and leading media and communications initiatives to advance international development and policy objectives, with field experience in over two dozen countries. Penn previously worked at the U.S. Department of State’s Syria Regional Platform, where he led strategic communications, journalism training, and media support programs, and at BBC Media Action and Development Media International. He has also served as a communications consultant for United Nations Specialized Agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and the United States Agency for International Development. Penn holds a master’s degree in media and communications from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from The George Washington University.
