PopWire: More Than 300 U.S. Counties Are Majority-Minority
(August 2007)—More than 300 U.S. counties now have populations in which racial and ethnic minorities are the majority, according to new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Bureau estimates indicate that Denver County in Colorado, with a population of nearly 567,000, is the largest county to become majority-minority between July 2005 and July 2006. Among the nation’s 25 largest counties, Miami-Dade County in Florida had the highest proportion minority, 82 percent.
The new figures from the bureau also include gender and age breakdowns for the nation’s 3,141 counties. The bureau released total population estimates by county earlier this year.
