(2012) In many parts of the world, adolescents are poorly informed about their health, bodies, sexuality, and physical well-being. Adolescent girls in particular are often kept from learning about sexuality and reproductive health (SRH) issues because of cultural and religious sensitivities.
At least 16 million Pakistanis have had to leave their homes because of historic monsoon rains that flooded a large swath of the country.1 The UN estimates the flooding has caused the deaths of 1,600 people, but the worst health effects are still ahead.
(2009) One in three women will experience an act of violence in their lifetime, whether it is domestic and interpersonal violence; sexual violence; violence in the name of "culture" or tradition; or systemic violence, as in the use of rape as an instrument of war.
(2010) Unintended pregnancies are widespread in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), jeopardizing the health and well-being of women and their families.1 These unplanned pregnancies also exert an unnecessary burden on their countries' health systems and socioeconomic development.
(2003) The successes are real, but they're small compared to the task: reaching the half-million adolescents who form some 20 percent of this island's 2.5 million population and enabling them to adopt healthier sexual lifestyles.
